A game of poker has many different variations. A variation of poker is called a cash game because it is played with cash instead of poker chips. Players make bets at intervals called betting rounds. During the first betting round, one player has the privilege and duty to make the first bet. Each player then has to put a certain amount of chips into the pot equal to the contribution made by the player who came before them. This player is known as the active player.

Each round of poker concludes with a showdown. This occurs when a player’s hand is the best and more than one player remains in the game. The player with the highest hand wins the pot. Poker hands are combinations of five cards. The winning hand is a straight flush or four of a kind. A player can only have one winning hand at a time. After the showdown, players reveal their hands to each other. If a player has a winning hand, he or she will win the pot.

A player may raise his or her bet in a pre-flop betting round if they haven’t already done so. A player can raise his or her bet by betting more than his or her current bet. Another player can fold. A player who folds out is effectively out of the game. If he or she loses the round, he or she is out. The player loses all of the money that was bet during that round.
